Musework so far

Well, i am out sitting in the lunge before the class goes over my second poem, which is a rhyming one. Hopefully the class doesn't dislike it, cause other people who have read it have said that they liked it a lot, despite the rhyming. i feel that a rhyming poem is a nice breath of fresh air every once in a while. Sometimes i feel that non rhyming poems, although great, can be tiring to read non stop.

For example, i believe it was Sara Marsh's poem that we read that i enjoyed a lot because it was well written and easy and flowing to read. All the other poems were interesting, but something with a rhythm is very soothing to the eyes and mind on occasion.

  1. I can agree with you. Often I get nervous that my poem is bad, however I remind myself not to worry about it, this is my own personal work and I am writing for myself. Also, everyone wants to help you out to improve it so don't stress!

  2. I also can agree with you. I do like rhyme schemes. For some poems it works amazingly! I do get nervous about workshops as well! It is a little worrisome to have someone critique a poem we have worked on so hard.

  3. You are definitely right that reading a poem with a rhyme scheme can be refreshing. Before taking this class I had not really read any modern poetry. It was shocking to me that a lot of the poems we read could be considered poems at all. I think I'm finally starting to understand it, but I still like some rhymes once in a while.

  4. I agree, seeing as though a considerable amount of twentieth and twenty first century poets typically write the bulk of their works in non rhyming schemes, it is always refreshing to come across a poem that has it. I also find it interesting, when done in taste of course, when a rhyming poem covers modern subject matter, making its timelessness pair with material it normally wouldn't.
