The concept of workshop is really amazing and I think is very beneficial. I like to know what people get from hearing or reading my poetry. If the message I am trying to portray is clear. The process can be a bit nerve wrecking at first, but it definitely one of those feelings short lived and will surpass. The only thing I find hard is the fact everyone critiques based off of personal styles, opinions, and such. It’s hard to incorporate all those good suggestions and create a masterpiece. During my revision I found myself having to pick and choose certain suggestions that I wanted to use to fit the poem. In the end I hope that it comes out better than the first poem and holds the same message with better understanding and clarity.

I felt the same way when I first started the workshops. I do find them very useful though, and I think that is what matters most. My advice is just to follow what you think would be best for what you are trying to say, even if that means a complete rewrite of your poem.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the workshops are beneficial. What I've come to realize about them is that I try to use revision comments if they are consistent with what I think could be made better in my poems; this way my poems remain a reflection of my intention.

I definitely agree with you in saying that the workshops are really useful!Don't worry about what everyone else's preferences are pertaining to your own poetry, I believe that as long as you are satisfied with your final product, and truly love what you are left with, that is the best work you can do.
