Happy Poems
In general, I don't enjoy happy poems nearly as much as melancholy, angry, or even depressing ones. For the most part, I'd say the same is true for me concerning music, as well as literature and movies. I find the intensity of emotion to be so much more appealing and captivating. Perhaps that's just part of my personality, or maybe I just relate to it more. Happy poems just seem so frivolous comparatively. Most of my own poetry tends to be at the very least somewhat somber. Even when I set out to make a happy-ish poem, somehow the ending always turns somehow sad.

I find myself to be the complete opposite. I am a pessimist at heart, who somehow gets caught up in love and nature poetry. I try to express my melancholies often, but somehow- I end up where the beauty is. One day I'll fit my general personality to my deepest words.
ReplyDeleteI can agree with preferring to read poems that are angry or sad...etc. I feel like this involves so much more emotion. However, it is harder for me to share these types of poems because often they are so personal.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with what you are saying, I believe that emotionally painful poems are much stronger than happy ones. Happy ones do have their own way in sending a message, but I think deep emotion comes from the darkness, which is why I prefer it.
ReplyDeleteWell, I would say that because I usually have used my writing as a means to vent, my poems would have a sort of depressive tone them but in my own experience, once I started to write more, and especially after this semester, I have more hopeful poems popping up. They are usually poem of yearning in one way or another, but hopeful... usually for the want to travel..
